Local Train Station: Tazawako
From Tokyo: Take a JR shinkansen, Komachi, to Tazawako station. From Tazawako station, take a local bus, direction for Niuto Onsen, and get off at the last stop. From there, a shuttle can take you to the ryokan, or one can walk.
Travel Time: Tokyo to Tazawako takes around 3 hrs and 30 min. A local bus ride takes 45 min.
There are two accommodation buildings. One is for upscale travelers and other is for long term visitor, minimal and simple. Price: Rates start at Y3, 500 per person (without meal) to 15,000 (including breakfast and dinner). There are two different building for upscale accommodation and simple low-end accommodation facility. Some of them are with bathroom. The Water
Onsen Specifics: Three large outdoor bathing locations (two for mixed and one for woman only) and four inside bathing location (two for man, two for woman).
This onsen is located the remote of the Nyuto Onsen Kyo. It will take you to hike up for 15 minutes. Magoroku Onsen had been depending on self-generated electricity, the entire operation is rather simple. The ryokan is surrounded great mountains. The out door spas are facing right next rivers. Abandoned hot water is pouring into the tubs.
The Buzz
It was great set up as experiencing a country side of Japan. We stayed at simple accommodation (Y3,500 per person). It was a very small room. The kitchen was little wreck.
