Local Train Station: Gifu From Tokyo: Take the shinkansen to Nagoya, then transfer to the express train on the Tokaido Honsen line and get off at Gifu station. From Gifu, take a public bus to Itadori Suisu station. The ryokan is a three-minute walk from the bus stop. Travel Time: Tokyo to Nagoya, 1 hr 20 min. Nagoya to Gifu, 15 min. Bus ride, 2 hrs. Total travel time approx. 3 hrs and 35 min.

The Water

This is an unusual ryokan as each spacious tatami-style room contains a traditional Japanese hearth in the center of the main sitting area.
While not exactly elegant, the ryokan's qualities definitely evoke a more traditional time.
A special day-visit with a lunch (Y4,000), or a dinner (Y5,000), is available and makes for a pleasant way to experience Sugishima ryokan.
