Local Train Station: Takayama From : Take the Shinkansen to Nagoya. There, transfer to the express train Hida to Takayama. From Takayama, take a bus to Shin-Hodaka, getting off at Fukuchi Onsen. Travel Time: Tokyo to Nagoya, 1 hour, 40 minutes. Nagoya to Takayama, 2 hrs, 15 min. Takayama to Fukuchi onsen, 1 hour. Total travel time approx. 5 hours.

The Water
Onsen Specifics: Two outdoor baths (one for men, one for women). Two indoor baths (one for men and one one for women). Three outdoor family baths are available on a first-come, first-served basis. The ryokan is located a little far from everything but once you are here, all the inconveniences will seem petty and trite. (The only way to travel to Yumoto Choza is by bus from Takayama or Matsumoto.)
There's a water mill and large pond in the ryokan's impressive garden area. And the old dark wooden structures attracts a crwod that injoys the "retro" look.
The ryokan is known for its fine food -- which consistently ranks high among its guests.
